Stanley Miller, retired correctional officer

Stanley Miller, a retired correctional officer, passed away Sept. 25, 2026, at the age of 82.

He began his career as a correctional officer at San Quentin in 1988 before transferring to Pelican Bay State Prison. He retired from Pelican Bay in December 2010.

“Stanley dedicated more than three decades to public service. His steady professionalism, strong work ethic and commitment to supporting his fellow staff made him a respected and valued member of the team,” according to Pelican Bay State Prison. “Beyond his correctional career, Miller lived a life marked by service, mentorship and community involvement.”

He spent years engaged in martial arts, earning multiple black belts and helping run a local dojo in Crescent City.

He was also involved in Freemasonry, holding several positions within the lodge and receiving notable recognition for his contributions.

“His dedication to family, students, coworkers, and his community left a lasting impression on all who knew him,” according to the prison. “PBSP extends its heartfelt condolences to Stanley’s wife and to his entire family. His contributions to this institution and his positive influence on those around him will be long remembered.”

Masonic Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at the lodge in Crescent City. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Crescent City Cemetery.

Both services are open to family, friends and colleagues wishing to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Crescent Lodge No. 45.
