Two-Month Warning Period for New Automated Traffic Safety Pilot Program Begins to Encourage Safer Speeds And Protect Students

• Woodin Elementary School (12950 NE 195th ST)

Timeline for Implementation
Recognizing that the goal is education rather than punishment, Woodinville is providing an extensive two-month adjustment period:
• Warning Phase Two Months: Registered owners of vehicles exceeding the limit will receive a "WARNING" notice by mail. No fines will be issued during this two-month window.
• Full Enforcement After Two-Month Warning Period: After the awareness period, the system will move to full activation. Payable notices of infraction will be issued to registered owners for verified violations.

Enforcement Standards and Fines
Under Woodinville's regulatory framework, violations are treated as civil infractions, similar to a parking ticket:
• Standard Fine: $145.00 for speeds over 25 mph (Infractions in school zones do not impact driving records or insurance rates).
• Graduated Fine: $250 for speeds over 30 mph
• Officer Oversight: Every potential violation is manually reviewed and authorized by a Woodinville Police Officer before any notice is mailed.
• Financial Equity: As required by Senate Bill 2384, individuals who meet specific low-income criteria may request a 50% reduction in the fine amount.

A 2025 traffic study on NE 195th Street revealed that existing signage and flashing beacons were not enough to consistently slow traffic to safe levels.
